A Little Fashion...(just a little)

I always loved fashion.  When I was in my 20's and couldn't afford to shop and get an education, I bought a lot of consignment and vintage clothes (popular in Montreal even in the early 90's).  I often bought menswear (think pinstripe trousers, tuxedo shirts, and wool coats) and had them cut down to fit me or took them in myself. I adored clothes.

It was a first love, followed quickly by decorating (in fact I still feel guilty for the expensive clothes I asked my mother to buy me when I was 15 or 16).

Somewhere along the way, amidst student loans, affording my first car and saving for a home, fashion took a back seat.  I've stuck mostly with classic and safe clothes ever since.

But the recent New York Fashion Week really stirred my heart. I've followed it with great gusto and looked at almost all the collections online for a few minutes here and there every day.

So I thought I'd share my favorite collection with you.

Here is a brief look at the Spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear collection by Badgley Mischka (geniuses).  This collection just broke my heart, it was that perfect (and having neither the budget, nor the body anymore...)
A flowing white skirt is sheer perfection with a fitted top.  And that hat.
The clothes feel luxurious but restrained.

Badgley and Mischka were supposedly inspired by the photography of Jacques Henri Lartigues, who captured dreamy images of women in the 1920's and 30's on the French Riviera.  Their collection feels so clean and tailored, looks so modern but hearkens so much to the past:
There was a LOT of black and white at Fashion Week

I think I may have died and gone to heaven:
The hair is perfect too.  Soft waves pulled back into a loose roll at the back of the head (visible if you watch the You Tube video here)

This suit is a dream (and check out the tiny bow belt).  The combination of hard and fine textures is a wonderful balance:

I really like that these clothes feel feminine, but are somehow so neatly and cleanly tailored that they don't feel too romantic:

This shirt with these pants is soooo sharp.  I love the mixture of textures and moods - a menswear shirt with damask silky pants:

This little outfit is very French Riviera.  It's what I'd wear if I went there.

And just in case you need some colour, here's a Grace Kellyesque dress:

So...
I hope you've enjoyed my short and temporary tour of fashion week.

If you are more interested in decor than fashion, you can check out Mark Badgley and James Mischka's gorgeous, and classic, country home here.

  3. Well done Terri, you have an exquisite eye for design and fashion. Those frocks are oh so feminine and classic. I was just purging my closet today of all the unnecessary items (things that no longer fit or are no longer age appropriate. I think I crossed an imaginary line when I turned 60 this year, it's out with the trendy and in with the classics!!! Did you find a new Fall coat? I purchased an off-white boiled wool beauty when I was in Paris this Spring, can't wait to wear it but it may be a while here in sunny and hot Paso Robles....the leaves are turning though, so there is hope that my favorite time of year is just around the corner. Great post, I want all of the items!!!

  5. These are lovely. And wearable. I love those soft white blouses with the details like cuffs and a pleated front. Softly feminine, but not "too." I'm going to look at the collection in detail.

  7. I was so swamped last week that I missed a ton of blog reading including this. I really wish I could have everyone of those gorgeous outfits. I would need a chic place to wear them too. The grocery store would not cut it.
