A Little Spring in Winter

It's been unseasonably warm for a Canadian winter, with the last few weeks mostly above freezing.

So it feels like Spring's just around the corner (which it isn't...there is snow coming on Sunday).

I saw these beautiful cakes the other day at my favorite local patisserie, Bruleé, and they made me smile:
Don't eat the flowers though!

I also loved the chocolate ganache cake with fruit:
Happy!

About an hour later I stopped at Crate & Barrel and admired their spring collection of silk flowers:
Magnolia branches, white peonies and pink dahlias at Crate & Barrel

You can see how desperate I am for spring to arrive.

Happy weekend!

  4. I can't wait for Spring either! Maybe I should move further South. I truly don't know how you handle the Canadian weather.
Everyone should have a birthday cake like that!

  5. Oh, I love the cake with the fruit on top. I think you must splurge and have one for your upcoming birthday! How are things going with your tests? Keep us posted on that. Those flowers at C&B look real in the photos. Do they look as good in person? I've always thought it would be a good idea to invest in some good-quality silk flowers. Fresh ones are of course ideal, but since they last only a short time, it would be nice to have some artificial ones to enjoy for weeks. I wish we had a C&B store where I live. I'd be there all the time. Maybe it's best we don't have one ...

  6. Spring is making a tentative appearance here, although there was frost on the roofs this morning. But that's nothing like your snowy day. Lovely cakes - better for my waistline to look at rather than eat!
