Vancouver Bound...

We're leaving next Tuesday for six days in Vancouver (David has a conference)!

I was getting so excited to visit my favorite decor and antique shops and art galleries (not to mention sightseeing and eating).  However, on Wednesday night I managed to turn my ankle coming down our back garden stairs and broke a bone in my foot.  Three years ago, I sprained this ankle severely and have had weakness since (despite tons of physio), so I was overdue for another bad sprain...

So...I cannot walk.  I have an air cast and I'm supposed to stay off the foot.  The pain is preventing me from walking anyway...I can barely hobble.  I'm seeing my favorite sports medicine doctor on Monday to determine whether I need a cast or crutches or what.  Ugh!

So my days of walking around Vancouver all day every day will be replaced by staying in the hotel and and reading my novel.  Maybe I can make it as far as Starbucks (considering there is one on every corner in Vancouver).  Luckily we are staying at the lovely Rosewood Hotel Georgia, which looks pretty wonderful if one is to be stuck inside.  I may be forced to go to the spa every day...

I will visit a small number of my favorite shops.  David is renting us a car for the last 2 days and will chauffeur me around.  I cannot wait to visit my new found friend Heather Ross at her stunning shop: Heather Ross In House.  I discovered Heather last year and blogged about her here.  She is lovely and talented and probably the most inspiring Canadian decorator/artist/stylist I know!  Her paintings are so beautiful and her style is exquisite:

I will also stop by the curious Marche St-George, a charming and creative little cafe and gourmet shop that is off the beaten path:

We will also visit Stanley Park and the famous beaches (where I will not be walking):

And no trip is complete without a drive through the pretty, posh neighborhoods:

Vancouver itself is always a beautiful muse.  Last year the cherry and apple blossoms were out when we were there in April:

And the views from our hotel were rather stunning:

Well, that's my quick pre-tour.  I will be back in 10 days with more photos!

  1. Have a beautiful time in Vancouver, Terri. I know that you will not let this ankle/foot mishap slow you down more than necessary. So sorry that it happened at all and am praying for a quick recovery.

  2. I am soooooo sorry to hear about your ankle :-( Just don't overdo it in Vancouver!

I'd take a laptop / IPad and hang out at Starbucks. Do you not have Starbucks in Calgary?

Make sure to take lots of photos for us. I'm sure Vancouver is really beautiful this time of year. I would like to visit someday.

Now, do start thinking about a trip to DC in the fall, ok?

Sending you lots of hugs!! Speedy recovery, too! xoxo, Loi

  5. What an extreme bummer! I hope you'll take it easy but I hope you'll get to visit some of your favorite places too. It's sometimes nice to get away and do very little..a little forced relaxation. I'm sure you'll make lemonade from the lemons you were dealt.

  6. Oh what a shame about your foot. But you'll have a wonderful time in Vancouver, I'm sure. I'm making a list of the shops/restaurants for times when we go over.

    Have a wonderful time!

  8. Oh no Terri, I am so sorry. So so sorry. Believe me when I tell you, I feel your pain. I have broken both my ankle and my foot on both legs. Ankle in left leg and foot in three places in the right leg. The foot was the hardest. So sorry, what can I say, 8 to ten weeks can go by really fast especially if you have lovely distractions like a trip to vancover. Try not to over do it with your foot and relax but maybe do more rides in the car than actually trying to walk anywhere. Poor dear. Will say a prayer for your speedy and pain free recovery.

  15. Terri,
I hope you had an amazing time while visiting my hometown of Vancouver! It was so great to see you, we have so much in common and so much to share we must do a proper high tea next time you are here and really get to know each other better. I am sure by now you have found the perfect setting for the treasures you chose from my shop : ) Do share a pic when you have a moment. Hope your foot is on the mend. Take care
    Heather
