Spontaneous Perfection

Living in a northern climate, sometimes it seems like we're the last people on earth to experience spring! While I enjoyed seeing all your tulips and lilacs these past few weeks (or months), nothing replaces having my very own...

Tonight I gathered a spontaneous bouquet of fresh lilacs, the very last of our tulips, and some snowdrops from my (finally) flourishing garden:
The snowdrop interiors remind me of egg yolks...
Lilacs remind me of childhood, as my family home and my grandmother's home had an abundance of lilac bushes. They also remind me of my great-grandmother Susie, who always loved lilac soap. I agree with her...their scent is heaven.

I am continually amazed at the perfection of flowers and their effect on my spirit. I wish I could have a daily bouquet in every room.

  1. I love this time of the year in Calgary, the air is filled with the scent from May Days & the lilac bushes. Enjoy your flowers while they last! xx

  2. Such a lovely bouquet...

I agree, seeing flowers in other gardens is nice, but it can only go so far!

Lilacs are the best part of spring! They grew like weeds in the parks here. I was in heaven.

  4. Beautiful. It does take forever for the flowers to bloom here. I came home from work this evening to find my neighbours large white lilac bush in bloom. There were none open yesterday. It is gorgeous and smells wonderful. Puts an instant smile on my face. Now I just have to wait for the day my newly planted (last year) white lilac tree to bloom in my front yard.
By the way, I love reading your blog and I'm glad you enjoyed the JJ Bean.

  5. I miss my lilacs in Michigan...along with the peonies & hydrangeas.
PS. I saw your response over on Joni's blog about the Bravo show. Pass on it...all tacky drama & hardly any design....

  7. I remember spring. But it was very short. We expect more humid/hot with thunderstorms by Tuesday.
