Framed

I finally got around to framing that pretty little painting we bought in Paris last Fall.

Jarvis Hall, a master framer in Calgary, helped me select a beautiful and appropriate French moulding to construct a frame for my small painting.   We decided against using a mat, as it seemed to look too important and overwhelmed the painting's charming simplicity.

I really wanted the new frame to be somewhat consistent with the frame on my other little (favorite) French painting:

Jarvis originally suggested an antique French frame for the new piece (which he can acquire), but we quickly decided that the new moulding was perfect with all the verticals in the painting:

What do you think?

Have a lovely weekend and thank you all for your kind and supportive comments on my last post.  It means the world to me to have such kind people caring for me out in the universe.

  3. I love your choice of frame and I adore the painting....I know exactly where the artist must have sat to paint this lovely scene. I am sure you will enjoy it for many many years.

  6. Terri, The framed painting is so stunning as well as your other one. I'm off to Paris in one week and hope to find some memorable souvenirs (possibly art but most definitely textiles). I hope things are getting a little less raw for you concerning your sweet Biscuit, although no matter how much time passes after a beloved pet leaves us, it can still remain raw. Cheri

  7. Perfection - I love the painting and the frame, and had not thought about the balance of the vertical and the horizontal.

I am heading to Paris next month, and am looking forward to my first visit to the Flea Market! I will use Loi's guide to the market (plus a detailed guide from a friend) as a reference.

  8. so love your choice, that painting looks amazing totally done up, I had my Andy Warholl poster framed last week, looking forward to hanging it up this weekend. We have been talking tonight about going to Paris next year, we must talk, so many questions I think you can answer.
We were at a new restaurant next door tonight, they just opened last night... love going out for a few glasses of wine then walking home. I have thought of you and your sweet heart alot this week, so wished I had got to meet him. I so have a place of love in my mind and heart for you both. This week has been hard, I lost a client to a super bug this pass week, he went in to the hospital for a small operation and did not make it out alive, so sad... Have not talked to his wife, but their furniture delivery was this week so that is why and how we hear about what happened, he was an amazingly sweet man that was looking forward to his retirement, again I will say, so so sad.
Enjoy your amazing painting and email me when you are available to get together for coffee., All my love and a few hugs, Carol Anne x

It's perfect! And great choice to go without a mat. I like that look very much. Will you be hanging it on the wall or propping it against something such as that mirror? That could look nice.

  15. Lovely. You had excellent help and you did a good job in agreeing with the excellent advice.

Selecting framing is an extremely challenging thing to do for me. Fortunately, most of my art has arrived already framed. When I did have to select something on my own, I was overwhelmed.

Yes, believe it or not, that was, for once, my own door that I was photographing. =D
