So, without further ado, I'll share the photos I took right after the painters left...complete with overgrown spruce. We love the new colour, a custom greige (i.e. taupe) I struggled over for weeks, together with crisp black on the shutters and doors:
In case you've forgotten, this is where we started. We were so tired of green and pink (which the previous owners also used throughout the interior)!:
After the painting was done, I updated the front planters with these lovely little boxwoods and got a new mat. I am still on the hunt for a great lantern and promise to show the whole thing in a future post:
The back garage and fences also look better in the taupe and black, which matches the existing iron work in the garden:
Our little potting shed looks so great in its new colours. The deck must be replaced next year (there's always something!) and then I'll buy some proper outdoor furniture:
Although our house is from the early 70's and only has so much curb appeal potential, I finally feel like we've at least arrived in the current century with the paint colours!
More to come...
What a great improvement. It's nice to see more of your yard and gardens too. Everything looks so well cared for. Love the little potting shed too!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see how they trim that blue spruce.
beautiful and classic colors. great choices - you can live with these colors forever. the one thing I KNEW I wanted last time we painted our exterior was black doors and shutters. and your yard! how lush it looks. great job...donna
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! Your colour choices are bang on, as I expected from you. :) I also was struck by your landscaping...it is so lush and established. You must be very proud!
ReplyDeleteHope all is well!

I love it. Very elegant! Love the door. I painted my side door black last year and loved it. I love how clean and crisp the color grey along side of the black look. Very chic! Earth tones are so in now, away from crazy colors and shocking combinations. I think it looks beautiful! Good Work .

PS. Put a maybe Orange berry wreath on your door, something to attract and show the contrast against the black and also to show the change of the season. Like your beautiful planter. Fun.

It's gorgeous, so classic, clean and elegant. You made great choices. And your yard is beautiful, too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so very nice. The curb appeal has definitely gone way up. You have a delightful backyard with such a neat and tidy garden. Such a very cozy spot for you both to relax after a hard day's work. The new boxwoods are a great touch adding balance and elegance. You make wonderful homeowners...the kind who tend their yard, beautify the home, and bring the neighborhood up. I'd be proud to call you neighbor; you'd be ill to call me one. ;> I don't know when our project will be done. The wheels do grind slowly...
ReplyDeleteCharming! I love the yard , garage and potting shed. Makes me want to take a paint brush to the barn. Lunch is good .I'll email.
ReplyDeletewhat a fabulous color combo. i love it, and all your plants and flowers. such great curb appeal...something i truly envy! one of these days, mine will hopefully get some overhauling!
ReplyDeleteLove it T! Well chosen. :)
ReplyDeleteWow - that is the perfect greige. Any chance you'd share the formula? I need to make a decision by next week, and I'm still struggling. I've spent a small fortune on paint samples and have yet to find a gray that isn't too green or too blue. We are going with a linen white trim and black shutters.
ReplyDeleteI really like the trees surrounding this house. Do you happen to know of a good arborist in calgary? I need one to come trim my trees.
